An alum of the Stephen M. Ross School of Business, Hewlett holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a master’s degree in accounting. Before joining U-M, he gained experience at PricewaterhouseCoopers. Chatas praised Hewlett’s financial expertise and leadership, stating, “Bobby’s financial expertise and experience, deep understanding of the university, and steady and proactive leadership make him an excellent choice for this position.”

In his new role, Hewlett will join Chatas’ senior leadership team and manage diverse finance-related areas, such as purchasing, procurement, accounting, payroll, and more. His responsibilities include oversight of external audited financial statements, internal controls, sponsored programs, and strategic risk management.

The role of vice president is a non-executive officer position, a new designation approved by the Board of Regents. Individuals holding this title report directly to an executive officer or the president but do not possess the same authority. The Regents will officially acknowledge Hewlett’s appointment during their September meeting.
