BuildOps, Inc. to Establish New Operations Hub in Raleigh, Creating 291 Jobs
In an effort to tap into North Carolina’s rich tech talent, BuildOps, Inc., a company specializing in software for commercial trade contractors, has announced plans to create 291 jobs in Raleigh. The Los Angeles-based firm will invest $771,200 to set up an operations hub in Wake County, marking its third such facility alongside existing hubs in Los Angeles and Toronto.
“North Carolina offers companies like BuildOps a deep pool of tech talent,” said Governor Josh Stein. “North Carolina’s education and workforce training programs deliver the skilled people companies rely on to succeed in today’s competitive marketplace. We welcome this veteran-owned business to North Carolina.”
Founded in 2018, BuildOps provides SaaS solutions that cater specifically to commercial trade contractors, including those in HVAC, plumbing, mechanical, and electrical fields. The company’s expansion into Raleigh is driven by a need to support its growing customer base and signals confidence in the area’s capacity for innovation and workforce development.
“We’re thrilled to establish our newest operations hub in Raleigh, a city known for its exceptional talent pool, innovation-driven ecosystem, and strong commitment to business growth,” said Alok Chanani, Co-Founder and CEO for BuildOps. “This expansion is an important step in our ongoing mission to revolutionize the commercial trade industry, and we look forward to becoming an integral part of the thriving Raleigh community.”
BuildOps’ move is further supported by a Job Development Investment Grant (JDIG), a strategic effort to boost economic growth in the state. Approved by North Carolina’s Economic Investment Committee, the grant is expected to enhance the state economy by approximately $701.7 million over its 12-year term. The agreement permits potential reimbursement to BuildOps of up to $1,839,000, contingent upon meeting job creation targets verified by the departments of Commerce and Revenue.
The new roles at BuildOps will average a salary of $110,997, significantly higher than Wake County’s average wage of $76,643. This will generate an annual payroll impact of more than $30 million for the local community.
“North Carolina’s tech sector has grown by 25% since 2018, outpacing the national average,” said Commerce Secretary Lee Lilley. “The state’s strong concentration of IT professionals has fostered an environment that attracts companies like BuildOps seeking the specialized, talented workforce North Carolina provides.”
The JDIG project boasts a 78 percent return on investment, projecting $1.78 in state revenue for every dollar spent. This financial model ensures a positive tax revenue outcome for the state despite potential reimbursements under the grant.
Because the new hub is located in Wake County, classified as a Tier 3 county in North Carolina’s economic development system, part of the JDIG funds—$613,000—will support the state’s Industrial Development Fund – Utility Account. This fund assists rural areas in upgrading infrastructure, indirectly benefiting economically challenged regions across the state.
“I’m pleased to see a fast-growing company like BuildOps plant their flag in Raleigh,” said Senator Jay Chaudhuri. “We know what it takes to help IT companies grow and our community will help them be successful in our region.”
Representative Cynthia Ball echoed the sentiment, congratulating the coalition of economic development organizations that secured the project for Raleigh and the larger Research Triangle area. “We look forward to seeing BuildOps reach the next phase of their growth here in North Carolina, serving their customers and bringing well-paying new jobs to the area,” she stated.
The collaboration that brought BuildOps to North Carolina included the North Carolina Department of Commerce, the Economic Development Partnership of N.C., the North Carolina General Assembly, the North Carolina Community College System, N.C. Commerce’s Division of Workforce Solutions, N.C. State University, Capital Area Workforce Development Board, Wake Technical Community College, the City of Raleigh, and Raleigh Economic Development and Wake County Economic Development, programs of the Greater Raleigh Chamber.
