Maricopa County Engages Consulting Firm for Election Process Review

In a move aimed at enhancing transparency and efficiency, the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors has commissioned an independent review of its election processes. BerryDunn, a well-regarded national consulting firm, has been selected to carry out this comprehensive assessment.

According to the county’s press release, the review will encompass several critical areas, including the chain of custody, physical security measures, and the utilization of ballot drop boxes. This initiative follows the board’s decision in February to allocate funds specifically for an external examination of their election operations.

BerryDunn’s previous experience with the county includes assisting with internal audits after the August 2018 Primary election. Since then, Maricopa County reports that notable changes have been implemented in their election operations, justifying the need for this updated evaluation.

It has been clarified that the Board of Supervisors did not play a role in the selection of BerryDunn. The choice was made independently by the county’s internal audit department, ensuring an unbiased selection process.

The current contract with BerryDunn is set to extend until June of the following year. However, initial findings from the review may be available as early as this fall, providing timely insights into the county’s electoral practices.
