Coley Home Expansion to Bring New Jobs and Growth to Catawba County

In a significant boost to the local economy, Governor Josh Stein has revealed that Coley Home, a furniture manufacturer, is set to create 45 new employment opportunities in Catawba County. This endeavor involves a $9 million investment aimed at bolstering the company’s production capabilities with a new facility in Claremont.

Governor Josh Stein emphasized the state’s prominence in the furniture industry, stating, “North Carolina is the furniture capital of the world, and Coley Home’s expansion reinforces that truth. I’m delighted to see this homegrown company grow and thrive in Catawba County, validating the quality of our workforce and the excellence of our manufacturing.”

Established in 2019, Coley Home has quickly become a prominent player in the North Carolina furniture scene, known for crafting premium custom home furnishings. Leveraging a vertically integrated model, the company oversees every stage from design to distribution, delivering high-quality products directly to consumers. With 150 fabric options and numerous styles for customization, the company ensures a seamless shopping experience. The new 75,000-square-foot facility will not only expand manufacturing capabilities but also feature a branded showroom and office space.

Coley Hull, Founder of Coley Home, expressed enthusiasm for the development, saying, “We could not be more excited to build a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility adjacent to our current facility. This expansion will support our continued growth and our mission to share an exceptional North Carolina craft with the world.”

The furniture sector in North Carolina is thriving, with more than 850 manufacturers anchored by a skilled workforce and extensive supply chains. N.C. Commerce Secretary Lee Lilley noted, “North Carolina is home to the nation’s largest furniture workforce. Companies like Coley Home benefit from our craftsmanship, robust supply chain, and nationally recognized workforce training programs.”

As positions vary, the average annual salary for these new roles will be $61,911, surpassing the current Catawba County average wage of $54,280, potentially generating an annual payroll impact nearing $2.8 million. Supporting this expansion is a $100,000 performance-based grant from the One North Carolina Fund, designed to help attract investments and job creation. Notably, the grant is contingent upon Coley, LLC, fulfilling specific job creation and investment targets, with local government matching participation required.

N.C. Senator Mark Hollo welcomed the initiative, stating, “We welcome these additional jobs and investments to Catawba County. Coley Home has quickly grown its business to go directly to its customers’ homes, and we’re excited to support the company in this next phase of growth.”

The project is backed by several partners, including the North Carolina Department of Commerce, Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina, North Carolina General Assembly, Commerce’s Division of Workforce Solutions, North Carolina Community College System, Catawba Valley Community College, Catawba County, Catawba County Economic Development Corporation, and Claremont city.
