Pinal County Attorney Faces Scrutiny Over Alleged Misuse of Resources
The Pinal County Board of Supervisors has taken decisive action by referring County Attorney Brad Miller to the Arizona Attorney General’s Office. This decision follows allegations of improper use of public funds and resources, coupled with not maintaining required public records.
Concerns arose when it was discovered that Miller had engaged two employees for several weeks without compensation or the necessary authorization from the board. “There’s many different departments in the county,” explained Supervisor Jeff Serdy. “Some of us are elected and we run offices. And I have approval to have a couple of employees. I can’t just hire six more employees and pay them what I want. I would have to get approval from the rest of the board, as we do each of the departments.”
To address the oversight, the board retrospectively approved payments for the two employees who had been working without pay. Legal advice confirmed that the board members were obligated to report these alleged violations and could face liability if they failed to act.
