Tragedy Strikes on Navajo Nation: Young Girl’s Death Suspected to be Hit-and-Run
The serene community of Coalmine on the Navajo Nation was shattered last month by the tragic disappearance and subsequent death of an 8-year-old girl, Maleeka “Mollie” Boone. The FBI has revealed that Boone may have been the victim of a hit-and-run incident.
Boone was reported missing on January 15th, and a Turquoise Alert was issued the following morning. Unfortunately, her body was discovered shortly thereafter. According to an FBI spokesperson, preliminary investigations suggest that Boone was struck by a larger vehicle, potentially a pickup truck, and the driver might have been unaware of the accident.
The FBI is actively conducting an investigation and is particularly interested in any vehicles that traveled on Cedar Loop Road in the Coalmine Navajo Authority between 5:50 and 6:20 p.m. on the day Boone went missing.
In a bid to find answers and bring justice to Boone’s family, the FBI is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for any information leading to an arrest or conviction. Individuals with relevant information or who observed any vehicles in the area during the specified timeframe are encouraged to contact the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI (225-5324). Tips can also be submitted online at tips.fbi.gov.
In related news, the Navajo Nation mourns the loss of a prominent figure, Rex Lee Jim, who passed away in Albuquerque. Jim was a respected medicine man, teacher, author, diplomat, and former vice president of the Navajo Nation, leaving behind a significant legacy at the age of 63.
