A dramatic exchange of gunfire between law enforcement and a murder suspect unfolded in Mexico, resulting in the suspect’s death. The suspect, an American citizen from Arizona, was wanted in connection with the murder of a local dentist.

According to the Sonora Attorney General’s Office, the 30-year-old man, known only as Ernesto due to Mexican privacy laws, was under investigation for the shooting of a dentist in Nogales, Sonora. Officials report that Ernesto visited the dentist’s office last Thursday in a distressed state. Unable to receive immediate treatment, he allegedly waited outside and later shot the dentist several times.

The situation escalated on Saturday in the border town of Agua Prieta, where Ernesto was located by authorities. A confrontation ensued, during which the suspect opened fire on law enforcement officers. The authorities returned fire, resulting in Ernesto’s death.

Sonora’s prosecutor’s office revealed that the suspect had a criminal past. Investigators are also examining whether the motive for the murder was linked to previous work performed by the dentist.
