Investigation Launched into Missing Funds at Queen Creek Charter School
A financial discrepancy involving a substantial sum of money has prompted an investigation at Eduprize, a charter school in Queen Creek. Approximately $275,000 linked to the school’s parent-teacher organization (PTO) is currently unaccounted for, according to a former member.
Confirmation of the investigation came from the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday, though detailed information remains undisclosed.
The group’s previous president, Jocelyn Carranza, managed the financial account. Since then, the organization has undergone a leadership overhaul and rebranded itself. Notably, court documents reveal that Carranza and her husband sought bankruptcy protection in 2023.
Jayme Accalia, who once served as the events coordinator for the organization, shared insights on the situation. “Carranza told each of us someone else was the cosigner and she told me it was the auditor,” Accalia detailed. “We learned she was the only one on the account the whole time.”
While the current PTO members have opted out of media interviews, they have released meeting records affirming Carranza’s removal due to a lack of duty fulfillment. The new leadership is determined to initiate a comprehensive financial audit.
Attempts to reach the school for comments have been unsuccessful. However, Accalia expressed confidence in the new administration by saying, “The school, the staff and the new parent teacher organization are outstanding. They’re doing everything they can to fix this.”
