Concerns Arise Over Potential ICE Office in Flagstaff

Rumors are swirling in Flagstaff about a potential U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) office opening in the area, sparking reactions from local activist groups. The organization Keep Flagstaff Together claims to have “reason to believe” that ICE is setting up a substation at 1585 S. Plaza Way.

The speculation follows reports of ICE’s interest in establishing a northern Arizona location. The suspected site is situated in southwest Flagstaff, not far from Northern Arizona University, and is currently home to federal offices, including the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development and Farm Services Administration.

While Keep Flagstaff Together has not provided concrete evidence of ICE’s intentions, the General Services Administration’s records indicate government leases on adjacent properties. The property in question is owned by Scott Baugh, a Flagstaff business owner who operates Moar Properties.

In a statement to KNAU, Baugh expressed surprise at the claims, stating he was unaware of any plans for ICE to occupy the space, although he acknowledged leasing to federal entities in the past. Further comments from Baugh have not been obtained.

Flagstaff Mayor Becky Daggett, alongside other officials, is actively seeking more information regarding the potential ICE substation. Meanwhile, Keep Flagstaff Together is urging local businesses and property owners to resist ICE’s attempts to lease private land in the region.

So far, neither Flagstaff nor Coconino County officials have been approached by ICE or the Department of Homeland Security for public property use, adding to the uncertainty surrounding the situation.
