In a significant move for his gubernatorial bid, Republican Congressman Andy Biggs took center stage at a rally in Phoenix, emphasizing his alignment with former President Donald Trump. The event, organized by Turning Point USA, marked Biggs’ first major campaign gathering.
During the rally at the Arizona Biltmore, Biggs underscored his support for Trump, asserting that a Trump ally in Arizona’s Governor’s Office would benefit the state. He remarked, “President Trump is giving some of the sovereignty — some of the power — back to the United States, and that means we have got to have a strong conservative governor of the state of Arizona,” addressing an audience of approximately 1,000 attendees.
Biggs outlined his vision for Arizona, which includes adopting policies similar to those in Florida, such as lower taxes and quicker election results. He expressed intentions to eliminate the state income tax to attract more businesses, saying, “There are businesses that fly over us to go to Texas or Florida because of our income tax, they will come here and we will see more jobs available and this is going to be an economic powerhouse of a state.”
He also stressed the need for Arizona to have its own “border czar” to address immigration issues. Biggs mentioned his plans to pass Republican-sponsored bills previously vetoed by Democratic Governor Katie Hobbs, including the “Arizona ICE Act” and legislation aimed at expediting election results.
For the upcoming 2026 gubernatorial race, Biggs has received an endorsement from Trump, despite the former president also backing another Republican candidate, Karrin Taylor Robson. Biggs’ campaign is driven by his longstanding support for Trump, which he highlighted by stating, “They’ve come after [Trump] nonstop, and it’s been my pleasure to say I’ve been with him at every step of the way.”
With the introduction of a lieutenant governor position in Arizona, thanks to a 2022 ballot measure, Biggs mentioned he has been approached by over 20 individuals interested in the role but has yet to make a decision.
Other Speakers and Campaign Support
The rally also featured speeches from other prominent Republicans, including Congressmen Eli Crane and Paul Gosar, and Colorado Congresswoman Lauren Boebert. Several Arizona candidates supported by Turning Point USA, such as Secretary of State hopeful Alexander Kolodin and Attorney General candidates Rodney Glassman and Warren Petersen, also addressed the crowd.
Andy Biggs’ Political Background
Andy Biggs represents Arizona’s 5th Congressional District, a position he’s held since 2016 after serving in the Arizona Legislature for over a decade. He was the Arizona Senate president for four years and chaired the Congressional Freedom Caucus from 2019 to 2022.
Controversial Stance on Election Integrity
Biggs has been a vocal critic of the 2020 presidential election results, claiming without evidence that voter fraud affected outcomes in Arizona. He supported the controversial audit of Maricopa County ballots and participated in the “Stop the Steal” rally in Washington, D.C., on January 6, 2021. Despite organizer Ali Alexander’s claims of collaboration, Biggs has denied any involvement in planning the event.
