Arizona Attorney General Challenges Trump’s Energy Declaration

In a significant legal move, Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes has taken action against the Trump administration. On Friday, she filed a lawsuit contesting the “national energy emergency” announced by President Trump on his first day via executive order.

This executive order has enabled federal agencies to expedite energy projects reliant on fossil fuels without standard environmental reviews. Mayes argues that the emergency was fabricated to prioritize oil companies, compromising environmental safeguards and public well-being.

This marks the 17th lawsuit filed by Mayes against the Trump administration, as part of a broader effort by a coalition of state attorneys general.

The coalition’s complaint questions the validity of the energy emergency, noting that U.S. energy production is “at an all-time high, and growing,” according to their legal filing.

The attorneys general seek a judicial order to prevent federal agencies from issuing permits and authorizations under the guise of an emergency, thus challenging the implementation of the executive order.
