Tragic Helicopter Crash Claims Lives of Two Officers in Flagstaff
A tragic helicopter crash in Flagstaff, Arizona, resulted in the deaths of two officers on Wednesday night. The Arizona Department of Public Safety’s helicopter, a Bell 407, went down while aiding police in an active shooter situation.
The Federal Aviation Administration reported that the crash occurred shortly after 10 p.m. near Route 66 and Thompson Street. The helicopter, part of the DPS Ranger fleet, was providing crucial air support during the Flagstaff Police Department’s response to the emergency.
While authorities have yet to release information regarding the identities of the fallen officers, it is known that one was a pilot and the other a paramedic trooper. The cause of the crash remains unclear at this stage.
In the related shooting incident, the suspect sustained non-fatal gunshot wounds and was subsequently apprehended. No other injuries were reported by the Flagstaff police.
Investigations into the helicopter crash are currently being conducted by the DPS, the Federal Aviation Administration, and the National Transportation Safety Board.
