Nonprofits in Arizona Still Await Federal Funds Despite Court Intervention
Although a court order recently interrupted the Trump administration’s freeze on federal funding, several Arizona nonprofits report a continued delay in receiving their allocated funds.
Local First Arizona, led by founder and CEO Kimber Lanning, supports nonprofits statewide by offering guidance and grants. However, Lanning notes that over a dozen nonprofits associated with her organization have yet to see the federal funds, despite the judicial ruling to lift the freeze.
“We believe that it is still frozen because so many of the websites are not functioning. Nobody that I know in my entire network has been reimbursed or received payment,” Lanning states.
Meanwhile, the Trump administration maintains its stance, asserting its authority to withhold grant payments deemed illegal while complying with the court’s directive.
Ross Schaffer, Executive Director of Flagstaff Shelter Services, echoes the concerns, stating her organization has not received federal funds since the freeze began. “It’s incredibly unnerving,” Shaffer comments. “We have contracts for all this funding and so we’re talking about funding that we’ve already spent that we have agreements that we’ll be reimbursed and that we report on.”
Schaffer warns that prolonged delays in funding could have severe consequences for local nonprofits, emphasizing the urgent need for resolution.
