Legacy of Jane Goodall Honored by Arizona State University Researchers

The academic community is mourning the loss of renowned primatologist Jane Goodall, who passed away on Wednesday at the age of 91. Her groundbreaking work in primatology continues to influence researchers worldwide, including those at Arizona State University’s Institute of Human Origins.

Professor Ian Gilby, a key member of the Institute, highlighted the longstanding collaboration with the Goodall Institute. He noted that the partnership has led to the preservation of crucial research archives from Gombe National Park in Tanzania.

“She dedicated her life to travelling around the globe and educating people about the plight of chimpanzees and the planet,” Gilby remarked, emphasizing her global impact and dedication.

Despite never having met Goodall, Professor Gilby acknowledges her significant influence on his career. His dissertation focused on the chimpanzees of Tanzania, and he currently oversees extensive research projects at the very park where Goodall conducted her pioneering studies.
