Arizona to Offer New Sportsbook Licenses Amidst Growing Betting Landscape
Arizona’s foray into the world of legalized sports betting is set to expand, as state officials announce plans to issue additional sportsbook licenses by the end of June. This move comes as part of the ongoing development of the state’s gaming industry, which has been evolving since the legalization of event wagering and sports betting in 2021.
The initial blueprint for Arizona’s sports betting framework, established under the Ducey administration, allocated a total of 20 sportsbook licenses. These were evenly divided between professional sports organizations and Arizona tribes, ensuring a balanced approach to the burgeoning industry.
With six licenses still unclaimed, state gaming officials have revealed that a two-week application window will open across June and July. This period will allow interested parties to apply for at least two of the available licenses, each valued at approximately $1 million when considering associated fees.
The push to distribute these remaining licenses underscores Arizona’s commitment to fostering a competitive and vibrant sports betting market, benefiting both local communities and the state’s economy.
