In a remarkable development, Arizona State University’s West Valley campus has seen a 15% surge in student enrollment over the past two years. This growth is part of a larger initiative aimed at revitalizing the campus through significant infrastructural enhancements.
According to Todd Sandrin, vice provost and dean of ASU’s New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences, the increase in enrollment is largely due to the campus’s expansion efforts, which include new buildings and academic programs. “There’s a buzz on the campus…New construction, new schools, more students than ever. The new residence hall is a fantastic residence hall. The academic building has really state-of-the-art classrooms and space,” he remarked.
The West Valley Forward initiative has facilitated the creation of a new academic and office building, alongside a residence hall that currently accommodates over 500 students. The campus, located in northwest Phoenix near the Glendale border, has also introduced new schools focusing on business, forensics, and engineering.

These academic additions have strengthened ties with the local community, particularly through the engineering school, which connects ASU with the West Valley Taiwanese community near the TSMC semiconductor plant. Sandrin emphasized that the initiative has aligned the university’s resources with the region’s needs, stating, “[The initiative has] aligned the resources of ASU particularly here in the West Valley with the needs of the West Valley. And so that meant launching the campus in a way, relaunching if you will, the campus in a way in which we brought three new schools.”
The enhancements at the West Valley campus have been met with enthusiasm from students, who are benefitting from the new facilities.
