In a decisive move, Chandler City Council has declined a major AI data center project planned for the Price Road industrial corridor. Following extensive public input, the council voted unanimously against the proposal on Thursday.

This development caught significant public interest when former U.S. Sen. Kyrsten Sinema advocated for the project, aligning it with federal AI strategies introduced during the Trump era.

Mayor Kevin Hartke expressed the city’s intent to explore alternatives for the business area, which houses major players like Intel and Wells Fargo.

“Big, almost-jobless buildings that are important and desired in other locations don’t fit what we’ve been designing and crafting and looking for in Price Corridor,” stated Hartke.

The city received a substantial amount of feedback, with over 250 emails opposing the project and only 10 in favor.

The future plans of New York-based developer Active Infrastructure for their 40-acre site remain uncertain.
