Chandler Unified School District Tackles Student Safety with New Initiative

In response to a tragic accident involving a student, the Chandler Unified School District has launched a Safety and Security Advisory Committee. This initiative was catalyzed by the unfortunate incident where Jayben Camacho, a student at Chandler High School, was fatally struck by a vehicle near the campus.

Superintendent Frank Narducci highlighted the committee’s goals, stating that they are currently examining the patterns of student pedestrian traffic in the vicinity of the high school. “[They are] identifying existing challenges and recommending possible feasible solutions,” he said. “They had a well attended meeting and will be having another meeting next week where solutions will be looked into as well.”

The committee’s first meeting was held on April 21, following Camacho’s accident, which occurred during a lunch break on April 2. As the district permits students to leave the campus during lunch periods, this practice is among those being reassessed by the committee in their effort to enhance student safety.
