COVID-19 Trends Observed in Coconino County: An Analysis
As COVID-19 cases see an uptick in Coconino County, health officials remain vigilant yet composed. The current increase is not expected to strain local healthcare facilities, contrasting sharply with the pandemic’s earlier phases.
Coconino County Health and Human Services have noted a pattern of late summer COVID-19 surges, which aligns with seasonal changes and social behaviors. Joel Bunis from the department commented, “It’s kind of expected seasonally when the kids go back to school the monsoon starts, people go back indoors, but it’s not going to be a burden on the healthcare system. We are not seeing an increase in hospitalizations, that’s notable.”
Despite a 94% rise in COVID-19 cases since June, the numbers remain significantly lower than past spikes. Historically, August has averaged over 600 cases in the county, yet this year, the figure stands at just 165 to date.
Bunis emphasizes that preventive measures remain unchanged. The recommendations include regular hand washing, vaccinations, staying home when unwell, and wearing masks if symptomatic.
