Mesa Resident Dorean Taylor Enters City Council Recall Race
As Mesa prepares for a special recall election, a new contender has stepped into the political arena. Dorean Taylor, a local resident, has announced her candidacy against council member Julie Spilsbury, marking her as the first to challenge Spilsbury in this recall.
Presently, Taylor is the sole candidate in the race, with a deadline of September 5 to collect a sufficient number of signatures to secure her place on the ballot. She is the only candidate to step up so far.
Having relocated to Arizona in 2008, Taylor, alongside her husband, operates a home remodeling business. More details about her professional endeavors can be found on her business website. Despite her recent political move, Taylor has yet to provide public comment on her candidacy.
The recall effort against Spilsbury was initiated by JoAnne Robbins, another Mesa resident. Robbins has voiced her dissatisfaction with Spilsbury’s decisions on certain city matters, such as approving the conversion of a hotel into housing for the homeless, as well as supporting increases in council salaries and utility rates. Additionally, Robbins, though acknowledging the council’s nonpartisan nature, criticizes Spilsbury for not embodying conservative principles expected from a Republican representative.
The upcoming recall election for Mesa’s District 2 is slated for November 4, setting the stage for a pivotal decision by the community on its local leadership. More information about the election process can be accessed here.
