Progress in Containing White Sage Fire Brings Relief to Residents
In a welcome development for the community, the Coconino County Sheriff’s office has announced the lifting of evacuation orders for Jacob Lake. This comes as fire crews make strides in containing the White Sage Fire.
Residents of Jacob Lake have been allowed to return to their homes as the area has been downgraded to Set status. However, House Rock Valley Road continues to remain under Go evacuation orders.
Fire managers have reported significant progress in controlling the perimeter of the White Sage Fire. The fire, which was ignited by lightning, has shown little growth recently. Increases in reported acreage are primarily due to unburned pockets within its interior.
Efforts to contain the blaze continue, with crews utilizing water sources such as Big Springs and the Colorado River. The fire is currently 44% contained, covering nearly 59,000 acres.
In addition to containment efforts, crews are also focusing on rehabilitation. They are working to minimize erosion and spread soil, promoting seed germination in areas affected by firefighting activities.
Meanwhile, another lightning-induced fire in the vicinity, spanning 85 acres, has been completely contained.
