Former Arizona Lawmaker Faces Legal Challenges Over Restraining Order Violation
In a significant legal development, Leezah Sun, a former legislator from West Valley, has been found to have breached a restraining order issued against her. This ruling comes in the aftermath of an incident that prompted her resignation from the Arizona House of Representatives last year.
The restraining order, which was put in place by Tolleson City Manager Reyes Medrano along with two other city employees, was designed to prevent Sun from making any contact with them. This legal action was a response to an alleged harassment episode that occurred during a meeting at the city offices. During this meeting, Sun reportedly threatened violence, expressing intentions to “smack” a city lobbyist and to “throw her off this balcony to kill her!”
The Phoenix Municipal Court has documented that Sun was found guilty of violating this order on July 24, 2024. The court has scheduled a sentencing hearing for October 9.
This incident is not isolated. It is part of a series of contentious interactions that culminated in an ethics complaint by Sun’s Democratic colleagues in 2024. These conflicts eventually led to her decision to step down from her legislative position.
Currently serving on the Tolleson Union High School District Board, Sun’s resignation from the Arizona House took place in January 2024. This resignation came just before her fellow legislators were set to vote on expelling her following an ethics committee’s findings of disorderly conduct that violated House rules. More details about her resignation can be found here.
