Tragic Collision Claims Lives of Two Firefighters on Arizona Highway

A head-on collision on State Route 260, between the towns of Show Low and Heber-Overgaard in Arizona, led to the unfortunate deaths of two firefighters on Sunday night. The tragic incident occurred at 10:14 p.m. when a vehicle heading west crossed into the opposite lane, colliding with an ambulance from the Timber Mesa Fire and Medical District.

Identified among the deceased are 31-year-old Brenna Kulikowski and 21-year-old Damon Thompson. Thompson was nearing the completion of his first year with the district, with just 15 days left until his milestone.

The crash also claimed the life of the vehicle’s driver, who remains unidentified at this time. All individuals involved were pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

The Timber Mesa Fire and Medical District expressed their grief through a social media post, stating, “Our entire organization is grieving the loss of our team members. We ask for privacy and compassion as we support the families, co-workers, and community during this very difficult time.”

Governor Katie Hobbs also addressed the tragedy on social media, saying, “I’m heartbroken to learn two brave firefighters lost their lives in a tragic crash near Show Low. These heroes dedicated themselves to protecting our communities, and my thoughts are with their families, loved ones, and fellow first responders during this difficult time.”

The Department of Public Safety has launched an investigation to determine the reason behind the vehicle crossing the center line. As the community mourns, they await further details on the circumstances surrounding the accident.
