Chlorine Leak Forces Closure of Grand Canyon’s Inner Trails

A chlorine leak in the Roaring Springs area has led to the closure of all inner corridor trails at Grand Canyon National Park. The affected trails include the popular Bright Angel, South Kaibab, and North Kaibab routes.

Park officials announced the closure on Wednesday, indicating that it applies to both day trippers and overnight hikers. The trails will remain inaccessible until further notice, according to the official alert. However, there is currently no timeline provided for when repairs might be completed.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) describes chlorine as a hazardous gas that can damage the lungs and has corrosive properties. Exposure to chlorine can result in symptoms such as fatigue, respiratory failure, and other irritations.
