As part of an intensified effort to enforce immigration policies in Arizona, the city of Flagstaff has confirmed that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has secured office space within the city. This development is part of the agency’s broader strategy to enhance operations across the state.
The newly acquired space for ICE will be housed in a privately owned facility, which does not require any formal approval from the city authorities. The city was informed by ICE that this sub-office aims to bolster enforcement activities statewide.
While precise details regarding the timeline and extent of future operations remain undisclosed, city officials have committed to keeping the public informed as new information emerges.
Earlier reports indicated that ICE had signed a lease agreement for a substation located at 1585 South Plaza Way back in April, though it remains uncertain if this is the same site now confirmed.
As of Tuesday, city officials affirmed that ICE had not requested the use of any municipal property. Should such a request occur, the city manager is required to adhere to a newly enacted directive that necessitates public notification prior to any federal agency’s use of city facilities.
