Historic Lodge Near Grand Canyon Faces Threat from Raging Wildfire

Just miles from the Grand Canyon’s North Rim, a historic lodge is facing a significant threat as firefighters continue to combat the relentless Dragon Bravo Fire.

Approaching its centennial celebration, the Kaibab Lodge’s future hangs in the balance. Owner Larry Innes remains optimistic, hoping the lodge will withstand the fire and reach its 100th anniversary next year.

“We’ve already been planning that. I think we’ll be inviting all these firemen to come to the 100-year anniversary next year,” Innes commented.

Innes, who also owns the nearby North Rim Country store, recently captured alarming images of thick smoke approaching the store. The lodge, located just five miles from the park’s entrance, remains the last one standing after the Grand Canyon Lodge was consumed by flames two weeks ago.

Efforts to contain the fire involve approximately 1,000 firefighters, with the flames being driven northeast by the wind. “It’ll be a dogfight, but I think they’ll win,” Innes remarked.
