Reopening of Kaibab National Forest Areas Post-Fire Closures

Visitors to the Kaibab National Forest will find expanded access as several previously restricted zones are reopening. These areas were initially closed following the impact of the White Sage and Dragon Bravo Fires.

Public entry will be allowed once again on most lands situated to the north and east of Highway 89A. Among these are popular spots such as the campgrounds at Jacob Lake, the LaFerve Overlook, the Navajo Trail, and part of the Arizona Trail.

Despite this reopening, certain sections, specifically forest roads 247, 248, 248A, and 279A, will remain closed due to the extensive damage caused by the wildfires.

Additionally, fire safety remains a top priority for officials who are implementing stage 2 fire restrictions in the Tusayan and North Kaibab ranger districts. This measure strictly prohibits campfires and most other fire sources within the forest boundaries.
