Music Venue Faces Uncertain Future as Housing Development Plan Moves Forward

Liza Womack’s connection to a Tucson music venue runs deeper than geography. Though she resides in New York and has never set foot in The Rock, the venue holds a significant place in her heart. This spot, which is now at risk of being replaced by a new housing development, was where her son, Gustav Åhr—better known as Lil Peep—tragically lost his life to an accidental overdose eight years ago at the age of 21. The proposed housing project is part of a broader amendment to the city’s building code, which now permits the construction of duplexes, triplexes, four-plexes, townhouses, and cottage courts in all residentially zoned areas, excluding those labeled as “rural residential.” This shift aims to increase housing options and density across Tucson.
