Mexico Celebrates Its Migrants in the U.S. with New Anthem

In a gesture of recognition and appreciation, Mexico has introduced a new anthem dedicated to its citizens living and working in the United States, timed with International Migrants Day.

Named the “Himno Migrante,” or “Migrant Anthem,” the song has been launched by Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum. In her announcement, she honored Mexican immigrants, referring to them as “heroes” and highlighting the significant $6.3 billion they sent back to Mexico in remittances last year.

During a press conference, President Sheinbaum expressed gratitude, stating, “You know that [Mexico] will always be your home,” and extended thanks to the immigrants for their contributions both to their families and to their homeland.

The anthem features lyrics in both English and Spanish, performed by the group Legado de Grandeza.

As reported by the American Immigration Council, Arizona alone is home to approximately half a million Mexican immigrants.

In contrast, migrants from other countries traveling through Mexico towards the U.S. have reportedly faced mistreatment by Mexican officials.

Addressing concerns about potential mass deportations under President-elect Donald Trump, Sheinbaum assured that Mexico is prepared to welcome deported Mexicans back into the country. She also expressed a desire to negotiate with Trump to prevent deportees from other nations from passing through Mexico.
