New Arizona Bill Aims to Modernize Chase Field Without Taxpayer Funds

Effort to Revitalize Chase Field Proposed with No Taxpayer Burden

In a bid to ensure the longevity of Chase Field without burdening taxpayers, state Rep. Jeff Weninger has put forth a legislative proposal. Introduced on Wednesday, House Bill 2704 aims to redirect sales and income taxes generated by the ballpark and the Arizona Diamondbacks towards its upkeep.

The proposed bill, which Weninger, the chairman of the House of Commerce Committee, backs, seeks to establish a fund dedicated to the maintenance and repair of Chase Field. This initiative mirrors the funding structure of the Arizona Sports and Tourism Authority, which supports State Farm Stadium.

Highlighting the importance of the Diamondbacks to Arizona’s identity, Weninger emphasized his dedication to securing the team’s future in the state. The current lease for the Diamondbacks at Chase Field is set to expire in 2027.

Weninger expressed confidence that the proposed bill would provide a sustainable financial solution for Chase Field, thus ensuring the Diamondbacks remain in Arizona for many years to come.
