Wildfire Expands Across the North Rim, Prompting Strategic Measures

The Dragon Bravo Fire has surged past 94,000 acres on the North Rim, compelling fire management teams to reassess their containment strategies, which have now decreased to 4% effectiveness. This escalation underscores the challenges faced by the crews as they battle the blaze under extreme conditions and unprecedented dry fuel levels in the mixed conifer and aspen forests.

In response to the fire’s northward progression, fire managers are prioritizing the fortification of Forest Road 213 to serve as a new control line. Additionally, there are plans to conduct backburning operations surrounding the Kaibab Lodge gas station. These preventative measures are aimed at safeguarding nearby structures from potential fire damage.
