Northern Arizona University Faces a Leadership Change as Athletic Director Steps Down
In an unexpected shift within Northern Arizona University’s athletic department, Uri Farkas has decided to step down from his role as the athletic director. This change comes less than a year after he was officially appointed to the position.
Farkas has cited the need to prioritize his physical and mental health as the driving force behind his decision. In a public statement, he expressed, “I will always be a strong advocate and supporter of Lumberjack Athletics and Northern Arizona University. At this time, I need to step away and focus on my physical and mental health, as well as the overall well-being of my family. They have been my number one supporters, and I look forward to spending more time with them as I explore my next opportunity.”
His tenure as interim athletic director began on June 30, following the retirement of Mike Marlow. Farkas had been a part of the university’s athletic leadership team since 2018, initially serving as the deputy athletic director.
Before his time at Northern Arizona University, Farkas gathered extensive experience in collegiate athletics through leadership roles at Washington State, California, and Oregon. His journey at NAU started when he joined as a senior associate athletic director five years ago.
