Fire Containment Progress in Window Rock Leads to Lifting of Evacuation Orders

The Oak Ridge Fire, which posed a significant threat southwest of Window Rock, has seen substantial containment progress, prompting officials to lift all evacuation orders by Tuesday morning.

Spanning 11,027 acres, the fire has reached 87% containment. Last week, its rapid spread necessitated the evacuation of over 350 residents.

Navajo authorities are now focused on facilitating the return of evacuated livestock to their owners. However, the immediate vicinity of the fire remains off-limits to the public.

Fire crews continue to patrol the affected area, working diligently to extinguish remaining hot spots. Meanwhile, a Burn Area Emergency Response Team is set to evaluate the fire’s impact, assessing burn severity and the potential risk of post-fire flooding.

Investigations into the cause of the fire are still ongoing.
