The Rise of Peoria as a Technological Epicenter

The West Valley’s transformation into a technological nucleus is gaining momentum with the development of the TSMC semiconductor facility. As part of this evolution, Peoria is collaborating with a regional education initiative to expand career and technical education.

In a strategic move, Peoria has formed a partnership with Western Maricopa Education Center, known as West-MEC, to establish a new facility designed to benefit both residents and students.

This new educational center will be located at the intersection of 95th and Peoria avenues, on land owned by the city.

According to Mike Faust, a deputy city manager, “The city of Peoria is really on a push to bring more jobs to our citizens and part of that is developing a skilled workforce.”

Currently, the programming for this campus is being carefully evaluated to ensure it meets community needs.

Faust explained, “So over the next year or so, in planning phases, West-MEC will begin to refine that list of program offerings, which will then drive the individual design of the campus itself.”

With a growing number of students opting out of traditional four-year universities and two-year degrees, Faust emphasized that the education provided by West-MEC equips individuals with essential trade skills, empowering them to secure high-paying jobs and fostering community development.
