Show Low Man Indicted in Tragic Shooting of Infant Daughter
An unsettling case has emerged in Show Low, where a local man faces serious charges following the tragic death of his young daughter. Prosecutors allege that Adam Joseph Montoya, 27, used an AR-style rifle to fatally shoot his 1-year-old daughter, an incident witnessed by the child’s mother.
Earlier this month, a grand jury filed an indictment charging Montoya with two felonies: second-degree murder and child abuse. Montoya has entered a plea of not guilty to these charges.
According to prosecutors, emergency responders rushed the child to a nearby medical center in Show Low, yet she was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Both the Navajo County Attorney’s Office and the Show Low Police Department have refrained from providing additional details. Similarly, the Navajo County Public Defender’s Office, which is handling Montoya’s defense, has opted not to offer further commentary on the ongoing case.
The court has set Montoya’s bond at $1 million, underlining the gravity of the charges he faces.
