The Heritage Foundation, a well-known conservative think tank, came under intense scrutiny this Thursday after sharing former President Donald Trump’s ultimatum aimed at the state of Indiana. Trump threatened to withdraw federal support if Indiana does not approve his suggested gerrymandering plan.

The organization declared on X, “President Trump has made it clear to Indiana leaders: if the Indiana Senate fails to pass the map, all federal funding will be stripped from the state,” adding:

“Roads will not be paved. Guard bases will close. Major projects will stop. These are the stakes and every NO vote will be to blame.”

Pressure has been building from Trump for Indiana to reshape its Congressional districts to eliminate Democratic representation. Initially, the proposal was rejected by the state’s Senate but has gained renewed consideration after threats were issued. Similarly, Trump had previously urged Texas to redraw its political boundaries to empower the GOP, a move counteracted by efforts in California to minimize Republican seats.

Expressing his frustration, Trump shared on Wednesday, “If Republicans will not do what is necessary to save our Country, they will eventually lose everything to the Democrats. Rod Bray and his friends won’t be in Politics for long, and I will do everything within my power to make sure that they will not hurt the Republican Party, and our Country, again. One of my favorite States, Indiana, will be the only State in the Union to turn the Republican Party down!” This statement was published in a post illustrating his disappointment.

Rod Bray, an Indiana state senator, stands against such redistricting, a process uncommon in years that do not follow census data collection. The recent developments have elicited reactions from political analysts and commentators, including those on the conservative spectrum, who voiced their surprise and concern over the Heritage Foundation’s pronouncement.
