Tucson Becomes U.S. Base for Mexican Baseball Team Amid Visa Delays
Tucson is on the brink of making sports history by becoming home to the first Mexican major league baseball team to establish a base in the United States. However, the excitement is tempered by complications with obtaining U.S. visas, which are delaying the team’s debut season.
The team, newly named the Tucson Baseball Team, hails from the Liga ARCO Mexicana Pacific, Mexico’s premier professional baseball league. Previously based in Navajoa, Sonora, the team announced its move to Tucson earlier this year, with plans to kick off their season against the Hermosillo Naranjeros on October 16.
Unfortunately, that series has been postponed indefinitely. Team owner Victor Cuevas explained that issues with the U.S. State Department have arisen, specifically regarding the team’s B2 and B1 visas, which have been rendered invalid due to the team’s relocation.
The team is actively working to resolve this matter, but so far, Citizenship and Immigration Services has not provided any answers regarding the delays, nor has it commented on potential impacts from the government shutdown that started on October 1.
For more updates, follow the team’s journey and stay informed on the latest developments as they navigate these bureaucratic challenges.
