Wildfire Near Bellemont Sparks Evacuation Alert, Quickly Contained

In a swift sequence of events, residents in the vicinity of Whispering Pines Ranch, located west of Bellemont, faced a potential evacuation on Tuesday morning due to a wildfire threat. However, the alert was lifted within a few hours as fire crews gained control over the situation.

The Prairie Fire, as it is known, expanded to cover 45 acres before being mostly contained, according to officials from the Kaibab National Forest. They anticipate minimal to no further expansion of the blaze.

An earlier report from the Ponderosa Fire Department indicated that the fire was advancing westward at a slow pace. By 7 a.m., the lower western areas, specifically around Pine Access and Dust Devil roads, were affected, while railroad tracks served as a barrier to the north.

A combined effort of local, state, and federal resources is currently on the ground to manage the situation. At this time, the cause of the fire remains undetermined.
