As Michigan prepares for its Healthy Climate Conference, a chorus of voices in Detroit has risen against federal environmental policies. Clean energy advocates have voiced strong opposition, particularly targeting the rollback of vital environmental measures by the Trump administration.
Representing the Michigan League of Conservation Voters, Bentley Johnson highlighted the administration’s aggressive moves against sustainable energy, stating that efforts are being made to reinstate heavily polluting energy sources like coal.
Johnson remarked, “And now he’s issued executive orders that attempt to undermine Michigan’s ability, and every state’s ability, to make our own energy decisions.”
Amid these federal maneuvers, Johnson also pointed out that some state Republicans are attempting to dilute Michigan’s groundbreaking climate laws. This has prompted calls for action from Democratic lawmakers and the public to safeguard these environmental regulations.
Critics from the Republican side argue that Michigan’s climate initiatives could potentially lead to job losses and impede economic progress.
