Military Vet and Sheriff’s Son Enters Congressional Race

In a move that has added intrigue to the political landscape of Oakland County, the son of the county’s sheriff, Mike Bouchard, is setting his sights on a congressional seat. The younger Bouchard, armed with a robust military background, is positioning himself as a strong contender in this increasingly competitive race.

Mike Bouchard, who has served in Iraq and on the southern U.S. border as a member of the prestigious 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions, is a graduate of Michigan State University’s ROTC program. In a recent statement, he expressed his readiness to transition from military service to political service: “I’ve worn the uniform of our nation and faced America’s enemies abroad. Now I’m ready to fight for our people here at home — to keep our families safe, our jobs local, and help make our country strong again.”

Bouchard outlines his campaign priorities as focusing on enhancing safety and security, revitalizing Michigan’s manufacturing sector, and advocating for those in service. His entry into politics seeks to fill the void left by Republican Congressman John James, who is vacating his seat to pursue the governorship of Michigan.

The opening of this seat has sparked interest from both Democratic and Republican candidates, each eager to secure this pivotal congressional position. As the race heats up, Bouchard’s military credentials may play a decisive role in appealing to voters in suburban Detroit.
