Controversy Arises as Michigan Representative Moves to Impeach HHS Secretary
In a surprising political maneuver, Michigan’s U.S. Representative, Haley Stevens, has initiated articles of impeachment against Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the current U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary. The Birmingham Democrat’s actions have sparked a heated debate over healthcare policies and political motivations.
Stevens has accused Kennedy of inflating healthcare costs and eroding public confidence in medical professionals and vaccinations. During a Zoom call with reporters, she stated, “We’ve watched him ignore the science and make outlandish claims about Tylenol, vaccines and autism. RFK Jr.’s dangerous misinformation campaign is undermining public trust in doctors, researchers and lifesaving medicine.”
The response from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services was swift. Andrew Nixon, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Media Relations, criticized Stevens’ impeachment move. He emphasized that “Secretary Kennedy remains focused on improving Americans’ health and lowering costs, not on partisan theatrics designed to elevate standing in a failing, third-rate Senate bid.”
Amidst this political drama, Stevens is also a candidate in the upcoming 2026 race for Michigan’s open U.S. Senate seat, joining other Republicans and Democrats in the contest.
