Year of Global Engagement Event Grant

February 13, 2025

President Ono’s Year of Global Engagement kicks off with a grant program to fund international events. This initiative encourages cultural activities, symposia, and educational outreach to promote global understanding. The University of Michigan invites proposals from its units, especially those collaborating with students. Grants aim to fund new events that foster cultural empathy and awareness of global interconnectedness.

  • Promote cultural humility and understanding: Encourage respect and appreciation for diverse cultures.
  • Raise awareness of global interconnectedness: Highlight global relationships among countries, cultures, and industries.
  • Prepare students to become global leaders: Inspire students to embrace international collaboration and cultural co-creation.

Possible events include:

  • Speeches by international leaders on global issues and diplomacy.
  • Global symposiums tackling topics like climate change and human rights.
  • Competitions on global entrepreneurship and innovation.
  • Global art exhibitions and international cultural festivals.

Grants, up to $10,000, require a 25% cost share from the applicant’s unit. Awards are given in March and September 2025 for events in AY 2024-2025 or AY 2025-2026. Supported events will be spotlighted on the Global Michigan and Year of Democracy websites.
