The University of Michigan has significantly increased its investment in the Go Blue Guarantee, awarding $54.9 million in tuition aid to 6,387 students in 2025-26, compared to $26.3 million for 3,786 students the previous year. This initiative, started in 2018, aims to provide accessible education to in-state students regardless of their financial background. The program now includes all three campuses, covering full tuition for families earning up to $125,000 annually with assets under $125,000.
Mark J. Bernstein, chair of the Board of Regents, emphasized, “The Go Blue Guarantee is one of the most important commitments we can make as a university — ensuring that talented students across Michigan have a clear and attainable path to a world-class U-M education.” This commitment ensures 62% of in-state undergraduates graduate debt-free, with those who do incur debt seeing reduced amounts over the years.
Initially limited to the Ann Arbor campus for families earning up to $65,000, the Go Blue Guarantee expanded to Flint and Dearborn campuses in 2022. Eligibility broadened further in 2024 to include families with $75,000 in income and assets. By 2026, it extended to families earning up to $125,000 with matching assets, also covering full attendance costs, including housing, for certain nursing and teacher preparation programs.
To date, the program has distributed over $181 million to Ann Arbor students, with $27 million allocated to Dearborn and $14 million to Flint. Bernstein affirmed, “The regents remain focused on building on this momentum and expanding opportunity,” ensuring all U-M campus students have the necessary support for their education.
