Winston-Salem Welcomes GMAX Industries with Investment and Job Creation
In a significant boost to Forsyth County’s economy, GMAX Industries, Inc. announced plans to establish its first North American manufacturing facility in Winston-Salem. This expansion will see the creation of 36 new jobs and an investment of $11.4 million into the region.
Governor Josh Stein highlighted the advantages of conducting business in North Carolina, noting the state’s exceptional workforce and infrastructure. “North Carolina continues to build on its reputation as a manufacturing powerhouse with its world-class workforce, excellent infrastructure, and outstanding supply chain access that will support this company’s future success,” stated Stein.
GMAX Industries, Inc., headquartered in New York and recognized as a certified Minority Business Enterprise (MBE), specializes in disposable medical supplies. The company, with over three decades of industry experience, aims to enhance its U.S. presence through a new 144,000-square-foot facility. This move is designed to bolster the healthcare supply chain by aligning production closer to patient needs.
Eric Liu, President and CEO of GMAX Industries, Inc., emphasized the company’s commitment to supporting the healthcare sector. “As we expand our U.S. manufacturing capabilities, our focus remains on delivering high-quality, dependable medical products with greater speed, control, and responsiveness,” Liu asserted.
The state offers a fertile ground for businesses like GMAX, according to Commerce Secretary Lee Lilley. He praised North Carolina’s manufacturing prowess, stating, “Our state has the largest manufacturing workforce in the southeastern United States, great partnerships, and a storied history of innovation.”
GMAX’s new positions will offer an average annual salary of $66,667, surpassing Forsyth County’s average wage and contributing over $2.4 million annually in payroll to the local economy.
To assist with the expansion, GMAX will benefit from a $75,000 performance-based grant via the One North Carolina Fund, designed to incentivize economic investment and job creation. The grant requires meeting specified job and capital investment targets, with matching funds from local governments.
Senator Paul A. Lowe, Jr. expressed optimism about the development, stating, “This is great news for Forsyth County and the surrounding communities. Our growing pool of talent and manufacturing environment are fueling the economy for companies like GMAX to operate, grow, and thrive.”
Several partners are instrumental in facilitating this project, including the North Carolina Department of Commerce, the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina, and local educational and governmental bodies.
