As the global demand for energy-efficient solutions grows, North Carolina is set to benefit from a significant economic boost. Wieland, a renowned copper manufacturer, is stepping up its operations in Pine Hall, catalyzing job creation and economic growth in the region.
Expansion Plans Unveiled
Governor Roy Cooper recently revealed that Wieland will be expanding its production capabilities in Pine Hall by investing over $27 million and creating 50 new jobs. “North Carolina is a proud leader in manufacturing, and Wieland’s announcement to expand in Stokes County continues that tradition,” Cooper remarked. He emphasized how the state’s skilled workforce and innovative environment play a crucial role in attracting such investments.
Wieland’s Global Reach
Wieland stands out as a leading supplier of semi-finished copper and copper alloy products, serving industries like air conditioning, refrigeration, electronics, and automotive globally. In response to the rising market demand, particularly in the HVAC, defense, and aerospace sectors, the company plans to enhance its Pine Hall facility. This expansion will enable Wieland Copper Products to start producing high-performance Tech Tubes, which optimize heat transfer in air conditioning and refrigeration, and Cold Plates, designed to improve the performance and lifespan of electronics.
Community and Economic Impact
Ivan Di Stefano, President of Wieland Thermal Solutions, expressed his enthusiasm about the expansion, highlighting the company’s commitment to the local community and industry. “Today’s announcement demonstrates Wieland’s proud impact in Pine Hall as we grow and strengthen our influence on the community and the industry with high quality products made in America,” he stated.
The planned expansion is expected to significantly benefit the local economy, with new positions offering an average annual wage of $56,900, well above the Stokes County average. The resultant payroll could exceed $2.8 million annually, providing a substantial economic uplift for the region.
Support and Incentives
The project will be supported by a $100,000 performance-based grant from the One North Carolina Fund. This fund aids local government efforts to attract investment and create jobs, with companies like Wieland required to meet specific benchmarks before receiving the funds. Additionally, the grant requires a matching contribution from local governments.
Local and Statewide Collaboration
Multiple partners have contributed to facilitating this expansion, including the North Carolina Department of Commerce, Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina, and several educational institutions and local governmental bodies. N.C. Commerce Secretary Machelle Baker Sanders highlighted the broader impact, stating, “Wieland Copper Products’ expansion is a tremendous win, not only for the Pine Hall community, but for North Carolina’s prominent aerospace, defense, information technology, and manufacturing industries.”
The announcement has also garnered support from local officials like N.C. Senator Dana Jones and N.C. Representative Kyle Hall, both of whom expressed their excitement about the continued partnership with Wieland Copper Products and the positive economic implications for the community.
