Former Republican Congressman Jim Greenwood Endorses Malcolm Kenyatta for Auditor General

Former Bucks County Republican Congressman Jim Greenwood endorsed State Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta’s campaign for Pennsylvania Auditor General.

Greenwood, who rose through the ranks of the Pennsylvania Republican Party in the 1980s, served Bucks County from 1993 to 2005. He was recruited by former US House Speaker Newt Gingrich.

“I’m a Republican, but I don’t support candidates based on their party. I support them based on the quality of their character, their intelligence, and why they want to hold office,” Greenwood said in a video endorsing Kenyatta.

“Malcolm Kenyatta is running for auditor general for all the right reasons. He wants to ensure tax dollars are spent wisely for people’s benefit, independent of politics or ambition.”

Kenyatta, who aims to make history as the first openly LGBTQ member elected to a statewide office, is running against the incumbent Republican Auditor General, Timothy DeFoor, in November’s election.

While Timothy DeFoor leans towards the MAGA right, our campaign is reaching out to everyone — including lifelong Republicans like Congressman Greenwood,” Kenyatta said in a statement.

“I’m running as a proud Democrat, but if Pennsylvanians elect me as the next Auditor General, I will work to deliver a government that works for Pennsylvania’s working families.”

Kenyatta recently criticized DeFoor for announcing an audit of the state’s automatic voter registration system, claiming it stokes fears about undocumented immigrants voting.

“DeFoor is once again bowing to Donald Trump, paving the way for Trump’s Big Lie 2.0. His latest audit provides cover for dangerous conspiracies and election denialism, undermining trust in Pennsylvania’s electoral process,” Kenyatta said.

“After casting doubt on the 2020 election, DeFoor has launched another deeply political audit.”

Kenyatta laid out his vision for the auditor general’s office while speaking to voters in Montgomery County on Sunday.

“You need candidates with a vision for the future,” Kenyatta said.

“As your next auditor general, I’ve laid out what that vision would look like. I’m going to rebuild the Bureau of School Audits on day one to ensure every child receives a high-quality public education in Pennsylvania.”

“We’re going to create a Bureau of Labor and Worker Protections to ensure our workers are treated with dignity and respect from their first job application to retirement.”
