Gov. Josh Shapiro’s Mission: Helping Janelle Stelson Defeat Scott Perry
With less than 60 days until Election Day, Gov. Josh Shapiro has become one of Janelle Stelson’s key allies, telling South Central Pennsylvania voters he doesn’t think much of Congressman Scott Perry (R-York).
Stelson, a former TV news anchor in Harrisburg, left her job last September to challenge Perry.
“Under Scott Perry’s leadership with Donald Trump, they took away freedoms from millions of women,” Shapiro told Stelson supporters.
“They continue to threaten people based on appearance, origin, love, or faith. Scott Perry has learned from Donald Trump to create divisions in our society.”
Last month, Shapiro called Perry “fundamentally full of shit” for trying to overturn Pennsylvania’s 2020 election results, promising voters to unseat Perry.
Nearly 100 Stelson supporters gathered at SEIU Healthcare PA’s Harrisburg office to hear Shapiro and Stelson launch their door-knocking campaign.
In 2022, Shapiro defeated State Sen. Doug Mastriano (R-Franklin) by 12 points in Perry’s district, becoming one of Pennsylvania’s most popular governors.
Throughout her campaign, Stelson has compared Perry to Mastriano, arguing Perry is equally extremist.
“Josh Shapiro won this +4 red district by 12 points,” Stelson said. “We do our homework and vote for the best candidate.”
After the event, Shapiro and Stelson spoke with reporters, with Shapiro stating Pennsylvanians are tired of Trump’s and Perry’s extremist rhetoric.
“In 2016, Trump won Pennsylvania by 44,000 votes. Since then, every Trump or Perry-aligned candidate has lost,” Shapiro said.
“Pennsylvanians see through extremism and want common sense leaders. Janelle is one of those leaders.”
