Driscoll’s Stance on Gas Prices Amid Iran Conflict
Republican candidate Jeanine Driscoll has consistently downplayed the concerns about the surge in fuel prices, which have escalated since the U.S. President Donald Trump initiated military action in Iran this past February. A significant portion of the electorate, as highlighted by a recent AP-NORC poll, is urging Congress to focus on resolving the conflict and easing the financial burden of rising costs.
In a recent interview with Newsmax on October 10, Driscoll remarked, “I have to tell you, when I’m out on the campaign trail, people really are not complaining that much about the price of gas.” Her comments were made despite widespread public concern.
Earlier, at a candidate forum, Driscoll reiterated her support for the military actions in Iran, acknowledging that while she doesn’t favor high gas prices, she still backs the ongoing operations. “I don’t like high gas prices,” Driscoll stated. “I fill up my car halfway now because I’m hoping the next day it’s going to be cheaper. So, I find myself at the gas station a lot, but I support the president’s actions in Iran.”
This stance places Driscoll at odds not only with a majority of voters but also with some fellow Republicans. Notably, Iowa Representative Ashley Hinson and Ohio Senator Jon Husted, both engaged in competitive electoral races, have advocated for a swift conclusion to the hostilities.
Driscoll is competing against Democratic incumbent Laura Gillen in New York’s 4th congressional district. Her campaign has received the endorsement of President Trump.
