Efforts to Revive NHL Presence in Phoenix Underway
Excitement is stirring in Phoenix as a new initiative kicks off this week to reintroduce the National Hockey League to the area. The endeavor follows the relocation of the former Arizona Coyotes, who are preparing for their second season in Utah.
The NHL’s departure from Arizona, after nearly three decades, stemmed from the Coyotes’ failure to secure a permanent home following their eviction from the Glendale arena, which was originally constructed for hockey purposes.
Maricopa County Board of Supervisors Chairman Thomas Galvin is now taking steps to revive NHL hockey in the region. His primary goals include identifying potential new team owners and locating a suitable venue for an arena.
In a strategic move, Galvin has established an informal advisory committee, headed by Andrea Doan, the wife of Shane Doan, a prominent figure associated with the Coyotes franchise.
An upcoming news conference is scheduled for Thursday, where Doan, Galvin, and other key figures will share further details about their plans.
