Measles Alert in Coconino County: Health Officials Track Potential Exposures
In the wake of a second measles case in Page, Coconino County health officials are actively working to identify individuals who may have been exposed to the virus. The initial case of 2026 was reported on March 20, and this recent development has heightened concerns in the community.
Health authorities are focusing on those who utilized the Page Unified District School’s number 3 and 6 bus routes from March 23 to March 25. The routes serve several educational institutions, including Page High School, Manson Mesa High, Page Middle, Deseret View Elementary, Lake View Primary, and Page Early Childhood. Those potentially exposed are advised to remain vigilant for symptoms until April 16.
Additionally, individuals who visited Manson Mesa High during that same period, specifically from 7:30 a.m. to 5:40 p.m., are under observation. Further exposure risks include those present at the Tuba City Regional Health Care Emergency Room on March 27, between 9:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. Arizona time (10:30–7 p.m. Navajo Nation time), and in the main hospital building during the morning hours until 11:45 a.m. Arizona time (12:45 p.m. Navajo Nation time). These individuals are advised to monitor for symptoms until April 18.
The county had earlier issued alerts for potential exposure at Page High and the Page Safeway on March 12, as well as Banner Page Hospital on March 16, with a recommended monitoring period of three weeks.
Measles symptoms include a high fever, cough, and a characteristic blotchy rash beginning on the face and spreading downward. Health officials strongly advise that individuals receive two doses of the MMR vaccine to guard against the disease.
Since last summer, Arizona has faced a significant increase in measles cases, particularly along the Arizona-Utah border. The Arizona Department of Health Services reported 280 cases since August 2025, with 97% occurring in unvaccinated individuals and 65% affecting those under 18 years old.
